Isn't it a pity when you want to order desserts to end off a nice dinner, & you was told there's nothing but only chocolate & vanilla ice cream available? How does waffles w/ gelato sound?
Ice Edge Cafe is a one-of-a-kind fusion restaurant that offers italian & western cuisine, not forgetting the majority's favorite dessert! It's located at Simon Plaza, along Kovan Road, which is about 10mins walk from Kovan mrt station. Well, it's not a v prominent location actually, i doubt i'll know it's existence or where it's located if my friends didn't introduce to me.
When we reached it was about 9plus 10pm, & we were shocked that the cafe was still fully filled. We were lucky enough to queue for 10mins & we'd got our seats while many were waiting behind. They gave off a rather cosy feel w/ the orange lighting they used, seems to attract crowds of all ages.
I'm having the Green Apple Soda ($5.50), thou it's gassy but taste really refreshing aft a long day i'd before dinner was served, and the little sweet cherry in it! And sissy having Hazelnut w/ whipped cream ($6.50) i don't know how was it but i believe it was quite good as she finishes the whole glass of drink haha!
French Onion Soup
Hands down one of my favourite soup for cold weathers. A rich broth full of caramelized onions laced w/ sherry, topped w/ herb croutons & toasted provolone, and parmesan cheeses will be the best of best taste.
The Pesto Cream Chicken ($17.80)
It comes w/ a small portion of salad & flavored potato wedges on the side, crispy & salted on the outside, moist on the inside, amazing enough. They prepares their chicken w/ the surface of the chicken thigh is pan fried until it's alittle charred & crispy while the chicken still retain it's overall tenderness. The pesto cream chicken sauce was rather fragrant; they claimed that it was prepared using 8 different kinds of herbs.
Grilled Dory Fish ($17.80)
Accompanied w/ flavored pear and salad, health enough. The fish is fresh, as i'm very particular about the freshness of fishes. Well grilled, welly marinated, not flaky but gravy was somehow salty, overall isn't that bad. And it's not served in real big portion, if you're a big eater, don't order that. It could only fill half your tummy haha.
Prawn Pesto Cream Linguine ($17.80)
Nothing really fantastic, portion was quite small than what we would have expected. One thing that i don't like about cream pasta, tends to gelat aft sometime, too thick too bloated. Thus, i'm a tomato-based pasta lover yea ... Anyway, the pasta was given rather decent amount of prawns but the sauce wasn't that awesome power as we thought it would be.
After our sumptuous dinner, it's time for some desserts! No one leaves Ice Edge Cafe w/o trying their famous waffles & ice creams! Their desserts are specially created by their chefs to enhance the experience of tasting artisan gelato.
Mix & Match Waffle ($14.50)
Not the best waffle i've tried, a little hard (not crispy) but overall still edible. We'd picked the Rocher & Durian (Mao Shan Wang) flavours for our ice cream to go w/ the waffle, two scoops will be $14.50 & it will be more exp if you're picking more ice creams etc .. This cafe makes pretty awesome gelato in adventurous flavours. They do have other variety of flavours like Lychee Martini, Tiramisu, Rum & Raisins, Baileys, Salted Egg Yolk, Champagne Vanilla etc .. They are pretty well-known for their Durian (Mao Shan Wang) gelato, which boasts a strong natural durian flavour that make it seems as if you were eating real ice cold durian!
The place is quite a conducive place for some chats. Their service crews are friendly, but unfortunately, they aren't attentive enough. It took us quite awhile to get the attention of the crews, despite the fact that they have a system on the table for customers to notify the crews for attention. Anyway you may help yourself w/ free-flow of ice water near the entrance of the cafe.
I consider Ice Edge to be one of the very decent cafes in the Hougang/Sengkang/Serangoon area, especially so if you're looking for one that is mrt stations. You could simply visits them for desserts aft your dinner meal nearby!
